The art of wearing the saree, an Indian morning routine
How can I wear a saree to feel comfortable with? What is the meaning of their colors and patterns? Where can I buy one? Is there only one way to wear it?
If you have ever asked yourself one of these questions, Sita’s new workshop is made for you. This workshop will allow you to discover the wonders and secrets of Indian most traditional dress. So leave your stereotypes and come practice!
Our teacher Lakshmi
Lakshmi lives in Pondicherry and has been wearing the saree for twenty years. Wearing Indian traditional clothes is most important for Indian women: “It is our tradition; I have seen my mother, my grannies wearing it, and this for generations and generations. I have worn a half saree until I became adult and could wear a proper saree”.
About the workshop
The workshop will last an hour and a half and will be divided in several parts. First you will be introduced to the saree’s historical origin. Then you will learn the art of wearing it in different styles. “We don’t wear the saree the same way in our everyday life and when we attend a wedding for example. There are also different ways to wear it according to the place of India you are from”.
You will also have the opportunity to discover more about the saree’s material ("Kanchipuram" beautiful silk, cotton or even synthetic), their colors and patterns’ signification.
During the class Lakshmi will give you all her personal tips even about the places you could buy one according to your desires. And you can ask her all questions about Indian beauty secrets such as hair breads, flower garlands and jewels!
To let each guest enjoy the most of this workshop and have personal attention, we will welcome no more than six persons in one group.
