Sumesh, our therapist and yoga teacher
The birth of a passion for Yoga and Ayurveda
Grown up in a traditional Keralan family, Sumesh was always surrounded with yoga and natural medicine. In fact, this South Indian state is known for its ayurvedic practices. That’s why his passion for these disciplines started really soon for him. When he was young, he was practicing asanas on his own and when he turned 12, he enrolled in a centre next to his home in Trichur to learn yoga.
He started later to study Ayurveda and he attended several seminars and lectures in Kerala about it. The methods he learned there were more technical than the ones handed down by his family. In 2008, he decided to use his training and he became a massage therapist.
Four years ago, he joined Sita as a masseur and yoga teacher with his brother Gireesh, who is also a yoga and kalaripayattu teacher in the centre.
For 3 years now, he also opened the Rishi Ayurveda & Yoga centre in Pondicherry where he offers health care and Ayurveda therapies, reflexology as well as yoga Sivananda classes.
His vision of yoga
What he likes about yoga is the mix of physical and spiritual work and the link between the body and the mind. Concerning the Ayurveda, he likes the fact that he is able to help people thanks to natural medicine. In Sita, he shares his passion with the guests and he helps them to find a physical and spiritual well-being.
Improving his practice
Recently, he introduces new massages like the siroabhyanga massage which is a head and shoulders massage as well as the pishta mandana massage for the back and the pada mandana for the feet. This allows focusing on the body parts that needs health care and discovering new technics for different benefits.
